Cataract Surgery

Today I had cataract surgery on my left eye. I know I am young for cataract surgery ( my age is nunya. Suffice it to say that I am under 55.) Unfortunately, I have done several things to this eye that made cataract surgery inevitable. First, I had bad eyesight. Second, I got lasik surgery. And enhancement. Third, I aged. Fourth, I had a vitereal detachment. (sounds bad, isn't really). But the detachment left a larger floater behind in my eye that was very annoying and distracting. So I opted for a vitrectomy, which is basically removing the vitreous from my inner eye. I was warned that I would get cataracts sooner by having this surgery. They just didn't specify how much sooner. 5 years? 10 years? How about within a year of surgery. Yeah, that was really quick.
I'm not really bummed about it because with cataract surgery, you can, most of the time, get pretty close to 20/20 vision. Since I have been really nearsighted since age 9 and lasik only helped some, I am very excited about maybe having close to 20/20 vison. Only because I had lasik, getting the right perscription for the intraocular lens just right is pretty tricky. I never do anything the easy way, it seems.
The surgery went well and was very quick. No pain, except for some pressure a couple of times. Of course, I was awake and only mildly sedated so I was aware of everything that was done. Vision in that eye was like an LSD hallucination while they were working on it. (Not that I would know anything about LSD hallucinations. Really!)
So now I am home and have a lovely patch (the metal kind with all the little holes). That's just to remind me not to rub that eye. Hard to tell what the vision is going to be yet, but the little I can see seems pretty clear and good visual acuity. Keep the fingers crossed!
