Deers At Play

One of the fun things about where we live is
the abundance of deer that frequent our
mountain neighborhood. Starting in the spring
we start seeing them everywhere.

This buck was feeding right on the top tier of the hillside on the
back side of our house, just below the deck.
Ray tapped on the window which caused him to look up, but kinda like "what??" and then he kept feeding.

Last year there were a ton of fawns with their mamas all over the place, but this year I hadn't
seen too many. But last night as I was working on a quilt in my sewing room and Ray was on the computer, we watched as a couple of mama deer and their little fawns came up to look for
good eats around our house.

It was a little sparse on the north side of the driveway...
so they moseyied on over to the front lawn where they played a short game of chase. You can't see it in the picture, but one of the mama's was getting quite frisky and did a little bucking right in the middle of the front lawn and then ran up through the trees and low growth back to the road, while being chased by her little fawn. The fawn stopped at the edge of the lawn and looked toward where mama had gone and looked as if she wondered if she should follow. "Where'd mama go?'' Mama came back and they all moseyied on toward the back of the house and down below.
Everyone who comes to visit us gets so excited when they see the deer, but it has became so commonplace to us it's like "oh yeah, another deer, big deal." (of course, the deer are so tame it's like they're saying "oh yeah, another human, big deal.")
